MANILA, Philippines – Filipina tennis ace Alex Eala crashed out of the W60 Glasgow after running out of gas against the Netherlands’ Suzan Lamens, 6-2, 4-6, 1-6, Tuesday night (Manila time).

Eala started the match with guns blazing, breezing through to a 6-2 set win.

She carried the momentum to the second set, going up 3-2 after Lamens’ return went straight to the net.

However, the Filipina simply ran out of gas, looking lackadaisical at times as Lamens stormed back and won three straight games for a 5-3 lead.

Eala won the next game, but her opponent closed the set up.

The Asian Games bronze medalist never recovered in the third set, failing to overcome a 3-0 lead.

This is the second consecutive tournament of Eala where she bowed out of the singles’ competition in the first round.

She also exited the round of 32 of the Jasmin Open against Belgium’s Elise Mertens last week.

Meanwhile, Eala will try and advance in the second round of the women’s doubles competition of the W60 Glasgow Wednesday night.

She has Czechia’s Barbora Palicova as a partner. The pair will face Turkiye’s Berfu Cengiz and United Kingdom’s Ali Collins in the round of 16.
